A couple of seasons ago, crocodile skins became a sought after exotic leather-good luxury. How I longed for a “Croco” bag of some kind. The issue is, they are prohibitively expensive and difficult to get. Have you tried to get your hands on a “Croco” skin Kelly bag lately…good luck and thank you very much for your patience!
Q= What were we laymen going to do in order to get our exotic skin fix?
A= In came a replacement from the animal kingdom; Python skins, a more reptilian kind of feel. Out with Crocodile Dundee, in with Miss Serpentine Glamour!
From leather-good accessories to printed dresses and shirts, we have seen an explosion of snakeskins and python lately. These scaly skins include python, snakeskin, alligator and crocodile… oh yes...the printed motif versions are included on this list!!
I’ve always been suspicious and wondered from which far away country did the jewel-tone python or the exotic hot pink snakeskins come from? I finally came across an article in one of my favorite monthly reads which spilled the beans: some brands have entire departments full of elves hand-painting these skins!!! Aha ha…I knew it, my rainbow-colored strappy python sandals are technically tie dyed!
Ahead by a couple seasons, I had purchased a pair of Christian Louboutin python heels on sale! Can you imagine…o-n s-a-l-e ! I occasionally took them out for a spin, until this season, that is. They look great with everything and add some much needed edge to my ensembles.
I am not very hopeful this year; with the popularity of the reptilian trend, by the time we hit sale season there won’t be much stock left I’m afraid.
